Cervical Cancer Vaccination Awareness Talk by Dr. Satish Sharma at Government School, Ranchi

Cervical Cancer Vaccination Awareness

A special awareness session on Cervical Cancer Vaccination and Early Detection was organized at a government school in Ranchi, in front of DSC Ranchi. The program was successfully conducted under the community outreach initiative of the Inner Wheel club of Ranchi South district 325 with DSC Ranchi, with the keynote address delivered by Dr. Satish Sharma, a renowned cancer specialist.

The session focused on educating young students about the dangers of cervical cancer, the importance of timely vaccination, and how early detection can save countless lives. Dr. Satish Sharma explained that cervical cancer, caused primarily by persistent infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), remains one of the leading cancers among women in India. However, he emphasized that it is also one of the most preventable cancers through the HPV vaccine and regular screening.

Highlighting the importance of vaccination, Dr. Satish Sharma shared that the HPV vaccine is most effective when given between the ages of 9 to 14 years, before exposure to the virus. He further stressed that just like vaccines for polio or measles, the HPV vaccine works as a protective shield, greatly reducing the risk of developing cervical cancer later in life.

In addition to vaccination, Dr. Satish Sharma discussed the critical role of early detection. He encouraged women to undergo regular check-ups, including Pap smears and HPV testing, which can detect abnormal cell changes in the cervix before they develop into cancer. He also advised the audience not to ignore warning signs such as unusual vaginal bleeding, persistent pelvic pain, or discomfort during urination, as timely consultation could make all the difference.

The program was well-received by students and teachers alike, who actively engaged with questions and discussions. The Inner Wheel club of Ranchi South district 325 with DSC Ranchi played a significant role in organizing the event, ensuring that young girls and their families gained valuable knowledge that could protect their health in the future.

Representatives from the Inner Wheel Club stated that such outreach efforts are a vital part of their commitment to community welfare, aiming to spread awareness and empower people with life-saving information.

The event concluded with a strong message: cervical cancer is preventable, and through awareness, vaccination, and regular health check-ups, we can safeguard the lives of countless women.
